I have recently been unable to send emails composed in Entourage
through my mac.com account. An error message saying I "may need to
authenticate" appears when I try to send. Can anyone offer any help?

It has nothing to do with Entorage.
Due to the recent escalation in the Ongoing Spam Wars, some ISP's are now
blocking outgoing mail through port 25 which is the port you use to send to
..Mac.

They will block the port without informing their customers and since the
vast majority of spam comes from foreign remailers anyway it won't put a
dent in the spam supply.

Earthlink has an agreement with Apple to allow sending to .Mac through port
25 but getting each node configured that way is another issue. I don't know
what ISP you have there but if it's Earthlink you can workaround the problem
for a while by sending to smtpauth.earthlink.net instead of
smtp.earthlink.net. This means you need to authorize to send as well as
receive. You can do this all in the Entourage "Accounts" window.

I'm sure most ISP's have a similar scheme for sending but you would have to
approach it on an individual basis. The only consolation is that I can send
to Earthlink from any wireless access point I don't have an account with,
which is real convenient when traveling.
