Can Receive But Can't Send... Please Help!!

We recently moved into a vacation apartment where there is a wireless
internet connection, and all is well with life except we can no longer
send emails through our accounts that have worked perfectly for the
past few years. Though we are able to receive emails just fine.

We did no setting change on our Entourage, just the move, which leads
me to believe that it's not my email account server but rather the
ISP. Also, I'm able to send email if I log on to the webmail feature
through my browser. Eventually I was able to fix my mac account by
override default SMTP port and entered 587 instead of 25. But the same
trick didn't work for my other accounts.

Does anyone has suggestions on how to fix this problem? We are now in
a country where we don't speak the local language which makes working
with the ISP people a bit challenging, so we are hoping to avoid that
if possible...

Thanks in advance!

Galatea,

It probably is the ISP. If your ISP at home is Comcast, for example, you can
send mail through their SMTP server if you are physically connected to the
Comcast network, but not if you are accessing the Internet through a
different ISP. AT&T Worldnet has different servers (with different
connection requirements) depending on whether you are connected through
their network or through a different ISP.

Your home ISP may be able to help you. Do they have web-based mail access so
that you can send them e-mail that way?

I notice that you are using a mac.com address. Here are instructions you
might try from .mac about using their SMTP server:

I'm assuming you changed ISPs. Each account is set up differently depending
on the ISP.

Basics:
1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

You can try re-entering info.
You can delete account and create a new one.
Using copy/paste can result in an extra space being added. Type carefully.
Check your Keychain for corruption.

Give us all info like what country you are in. What's the ISP? There are
many people that are from all over the world that monitor this list that
might be able to help with more info.

Take a look at the Accounts page for more details on setting up for
different ISPs.
