cancelling fractions HELP

I work at a newspaper and we have this problem. Whenever a reporte
wants to reference the 9-11 attacks, or uses the phrase 24-7, ou
system converts them to fractions. They should not be fractions. I wan
them to be 9-11 or 24-7. Turning off autocorrect is not the answer
cause we have over 500 reporters. I want to create a macro that wil
say possibly search the reporters document and find instances of thi
and somehow tell word to keep it as is. Any suggestions???
thanks, clif

Hi Cliff,

I don't think you're going to have any luck with a macro. What you really
want, I think, is something that looks and prints the way you want but isn't
recognized by the system as a candidate for changing to a fraction

I don't know whether your system will accept it, but try making AutoCorrect
entries that change the regular hyphen in these items to a nonbreaking
hyphen (Ctrl+Shift+hyphen). Maybe the system will leave those unchanged. (In
my experiment, I found that I had to make the AutoCorrect a formatted entry,
because the unformatted version insisted that the nonbreaking hyphen is
really an asterisk. :p )

As a bonus, if the system honors the nonbreaking character, you'll avoid
getting the first number at the end of one line and the second number on the
next line.
