Cannot access the symbols in Word?

For some reason when I want to insert a symbol (click on insert, then on
symbo) Word locks up or does something weird and then asks me if I'd like to
save my work while Word resets or something to that effect. Does anyone have
a suggestion? I'm wondering if one of the past updates caused this problem?
If anyone could please help it would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!

Try using the repair option using the Office CD

Problems with Symbol, Font, Paragraph, Style, Page Setup, Print, Print
Preview, etc., can signal a problem with the printer driver. If repairing,
as Tony suggests, does not help, try deleting and reinstalling your printer.

I doubt my printer has anything to do with it. If anything it's probably
something to do with the last update I installed. Seems that it started
after the last update.

I was contemplating doing that but was afraid I would lose something. I'll

People never do seem to want to accept that the printer can be the cause of
problems in Word. <sigh>
