Cannot ctrl+c,ctrl+v in office 2003

P

Parker

Hello All,

I have a client that has Office 2003. In excel when he tries to use ctrl+c
to copy he gets a security violation error for macros. After lowering the
security, as the error suggested, it still did not work. However if you do
a copy and paste from the edit menu it works fine in any security setting.
I believe I had gotten all of the updates and security patches from
Microsoft. Is there something that I am missing?

Thank You For Any Responses

Thanks for the response. As far as he knows he has not set any macros or
reassigned any keys.

In that case, it should be safe to click on Tools | Customize | Keyboard
| Reset All. This will reset all keyboard shortcuts to their default
settings.

No luck even finding the keyboard reset all setting in the
Tools/Customize/keyboard/reset all. The problem seems to be that this is
only happening in one or two of the excel files. Not all of them as the
client is now telling me. Should I diable the macros? and will that stop
this from happening.

Thanks Again

Oops... senior moment here... the keyboard reset command is not
available in Excel. It probably is a macro that has reassigned the
Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V shortcuts to another function. Disabling macros is a
shotgun approach that might work; another is to modify the offending
macro so that it uses different shortcuts.

Hi Parker,

Thanks for your post.

According to your description, I know that when your client uses Ctrl+c in
Excel 2003 he/she will receive an error message. If your client uses Copy
and Paste function via Edit menu, they work fine. If I misunderstood your
concern, please feel free to let me know.

As Garfield's suggestion, it may be caused by the Ctrl+C shortcut has been
reassigned to macros in Excel. Please perform the following steps to make
sure if there are any macros:

1. Start Excel.
2. Click Tools - Macro - Macros.
3. Please check if there are any macros in the Macro name list.

Or, if the Excel workbooks are infected by macro virus, please try using
anti-virus software to clean the potential virus on your client side. Then,
check if the problem persists.

If two methods don't help, please start Excel with /s switch in safe mode
to check if the problem occurs.

Start Excel in Safe Mode
----------------------------
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Click Browse, and then locate the folder where Microsoft Excel is
installed, as specified earlier in this article.
3. After you locate the Excel.exe file, click the file to select it, and
then click Open.
4. At the end of the path in the Open box, type a space and then type /s so
that the entire line appears similar to the following:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /s
5. Click File - Open to open the Excel file experiencing the issue.

Check if the problem occurs. If the CTRL+C shortcut key works fine, please
see the "Additional Troubleshooting" section in following article to
troubleshoot the problem.

If the suggestion does not help, to narrow down the problem, please allow
me to collect the following information from you. I appreciate your effort.

1. Please take a screen shot of the error message and send it to me. It is
very important for us to resolve the issue more efficiently. Thanks for
your cooperation and patience.

How to take a screen shot, please follow the steps below:
----------------------------------------------------------------
1) When the screen appears, press the Print Screen key (right of F12 key)
Note: nothing will happen.
2) Open Paint ['start' => 'All Programs' => 'Accessories' => 'Paint'].
3) Click Edit (menu) -> Paste or press Ctrl + V.
4) Click File (menu) -> Save. Save it as a .jpg or .gif file and send it as
an attachment to me < (e-mail address removed) >.

2. Please send me the Excel document as an attachment so that I can test
the issue on my computer.

If anything is unclear in my response, please feel free to let me know. I
am happy to assist you and look forward to your reply.

Regards,

Ada Pan

Hello All,
Sorry I didnt get back to you earlier. There were macros in the file from
another user that my client was not aware of when recieving this attachment
from email. The macros were using hotkeys that my client does not use. We
had just disabled the macros, did a copy and paste to a new sheet and all
was well.

Thank You All for Your Continued Support
