cannot delete a com add-in for outlook 2003

I'm using xp pro and when I open outlook 2003 I get this error message "C:\Documents and Settings\..\Office\SMCMSYNC.DLL is not a valid Office Add-in." When I check the com add-ins button to delete the add in it doesn't appear but he alert reappears. How do I get rid of the alert?

Did you upgrade from a previous version of outlook? Look for extend.dat and
delete it.
