cannot delete contacts I get error message to restart

When trying to delete contacts the error message "The message interface has
returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart outlook.

I have performed the scanpst.exe program several times and it does not find
any errors. I have performed all the normal maintenance on the hard drive to
no avail.

Any help would be appreciated. I am working toward reformatting and
reinstalling but losing the .pst file will be a problem. I have a TREO 650
with the calendar and contacts as back up but all emails would be gone.

Thanks in advance,
BC

I'd try a new mail profile.

Brian,
I deleted then recreated a new mail profile - and then attemped to delete
contacts and am still getting the same error message. I am using OL2003 at
this time and some of these contacts were imported from my ACT Database
several years ago. Is there something related to the import tool that is
cuasing this error? Are there any tools that can give me a work around. I
would even be happy to delete the entire contact file within OL and start
over - is this possible?
Thx,
Bob

OL - tools - email accounts - view or change existing email accounts - remove
then within the same area selected add new account and recreated it - is
this what you had in mind?
