Cannot delete email from list

One of my clients received an email last night that showed up as a Mail
Delivery error and it has very strange characters in the subject. I've
never seen the characters before. It doesn't look like ascii characters
at all. Anyway, each time you click on this email, an error message
appears that says "action could not be completed. Mail error." If you
hit OK on this message, another one appears in 2-3 seconds. The only
way to get the messages to disappear is to force quit the application.
Has anyone ever seen this before or know of a way to delete that
message from the inbox?

You can't drag it to the trash either. As soon as you click on it, that
message appears.

Every time your client clicks on that bad message, Entourage will try to
load it in its preview pane, and since this email seems to contain some bad
code, it will make the app crash. Disable the preview pane (View>Preview
Pane>None in Entourage 2004), and you should now be able to delete it. After
you've emptied the trash, you can activate the preview pane again. If that
doesn't solve the problem, post back and give us more details, such as the
version of Entourage your client is using, more info re the email itself
etc.

I too have a message in my inbox that I cannot delete or move. It
showed up last Thursday. It is a listserv message from Missing Sync.
I have been able to delete messages from them before and so I am not
sure what is different.

I tried the your preview pane fix but as it never causes Entourage to
crash, I didn't think it would work and it hasn't.

I am simply unable to delete a message that I am tired of seeing.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Fixed the unmovable message.

Sorry to have asked the question prematurely.

I read on and decided to try rebuilding the database with the option
key at startup.

Although it said there was nothing wrong with the database, I rebuilt
it anyway and the message disappeared.

Thanks

I hope this helps someone else!

Hi Scott,

you managed to solve the problem before I could reply. Just for future
reference, when asking a question about email problems, you should always
indicate what kind of email account you are using. I'm assuming that it is
either a Hotmail or an IMAP account, and occasionally, Hotmail and IMAP
messages get stuck in Entourage's cache and are still visible after they
have been deleted from the server. In that case, right-click the name of
your account in the folder list and select Empty Cache from the contextual
menu. This will force Entourage to flush its cache and to redownload all the
messages from the server. Rebuilding the database was not really necessary
in this case, but as you have found out, it solved the problem nonetheless,
as a rebuild automatically flushes Entourage's cache. So the next time this
happens, try emptying the cache first; it might be easier than rebuilding
the database itself. Hope this is helpful.
