Cannot Delete Email (or rebuild) in Entoruage v.x

One of my clients received an email this week that showed up as a Mail
Delivery error and it has very strange characters in the subject. Every time
you try to "access" this email; read it, forward it, mark it as read, etc...
an error message
appears that says "Action could not be completed. Mail error." This error
then continually returns and you need to force quit Entourage. If I disable
the preview pane and try to delete it or move it to another folder/trash an
error returns, "Action could not be completed. Not enough Memory." Although
this error does not freeze the app.

I've tried to run a rebuild, but every time it hangs endlessly 9600 MB into
it (I am guessing it can't get past this email in the rebuild).

Is there another way to delete this message or run an export to a new
identity of everything except this message. Admittedly, MAC and Entourage
are not my area of expertise...

How long have you left it? On my machine a rebuild takes about 5 hours.

Mmmm.... Maybe that is it. The client ran the rebuild several times and I
only tried it once. But total we probably let it sit at 9600 for about 25
minutes before we called it hung. He does have a huge DB too (3.4GB). With
these rebuilds taking up to 5 hours like yours, is it common to appear stuck
at certain points, but then moves on - as opposed to steady (slow though it
may be) progress?
