Cannot Delete from Deleted Items Folder

I moved a bunch of e-mails to the deleted item folder. When I opened
the folder, the items were grayed out. When I click, they come up,
but when I select and delete, it either crashes or gives me an error
message stating "the action cannot be completed, mail error". The
only way out is force quit. Does anyone know of a fix for this?

rebuild the database ? thanks
