Cannot download emails

Hi,

Can anybody help me with this error message please:

Connection to server failed or was dropped. Could not retrieve mail. Error:
3253.

A bit of context: I just moved house and this has been happening since I
reconnected to the internet in the new place. It¹s an intermittent problem,
which is to say retrieving my email didn¹t work the first day, worked once
the second day, worked all day yesterday, and now today isn¹t working at all
again. Sending email has always worked however.

I¹ve phoned the ISP but they won¹t touch it because it¹s an email address
from my work. My work won¹t touch it because I¹m trying to connect from home
and they say everything is working fine and it¹s the ISP¹s fault. (I can
access my email using webmail.)

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Sarah

This one is not listed on the Error Page.

What do you have as your SMTP? If you are using your work, then I suggest
you use your ISPs SMTP info.

It sounds like it¹s just timing out trying to connect. This might be why
it¹s working sometimes and not others. I know when I moved a couple of years
ago, the new place was much slower. Same server: Comcast. Guess the
equipment or number of people on my node is higher here.
