Cannot Leave Mail on Server

Using Entourage v.010.1.4.

Did the following:

1. Opened Entourage.
2. From the Tools menu, chose Accounts.
3. Highlighted the desired Mail Account and click Edit.
4. Clicked over to the Options tab.
5. Checked the box labeled "Leave a copy of each message on the
server.", and chose the options to "Delete messages from the server
after 5 days and "Delete messages from the server after they are deleted
from this computer".

I did this in an attempt to be able to d/l mail to my iBook in the
a.m. and to be able to allow my wife to check the mail in the p.m. and
download the same emails to her desktop.

If this is what is supposed to happen...it isn't. If I check the
email on my iBook or she checks it on the desktop, then it's gone from
the server.

Have I done something wrong in the options I have chosen or do I
misunderstand what checking these options is supposed to do?

Why did you add the last option? Deleting after 5 days (I use 2 on high
volume accounts) accomplishes the desired end for me.

OK, Tom, went in and changed that to two days, as you suggested.

Actually, I now have mail remaining on the server.

Next problem is that I am getting duplicate copies of all mail each
time I download mail from Earthlink, be it on the iBook or the Desktop.

Weird.

If the duplicates only happen on the Earthlink account and not others, I
would more suspect an Earthlink server problem than an Entourage one.
What happens if you (one-time) click the "get all messages left on
server button"?

P.S. My beard has a couple of years on yours ;)
