Cannot print word documents

I have a hp psc750 printer and it has been working fine for at least a year
but now i am able to print pictures and even print test pages using hp
options. Yet whenever i try to print a word document the print icon is
displayed in the bottom right hand corner just as it used to but nothing ever
happens and the icon just disappears after a few second. Any idea what is
wrong with this?
