Cannot receive or send e-mail

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: pop

I just installed 2008 Office on my computer, and I set up Entourage to use for my e-mail. I have a gmail account, so I thought the set-up would be easy. The problem is, it has not been working at all since I set it up. I've tried all the trouble shooting suggestions and nothing is working. The errors either say that the network has timed out or it cannot connect to the server. Any suggestions will help! Thank you.

I use Gmail as a POP account but they did something recently that sets up as
IMAP as default. The problem could be in your Gmail settings online.
