Cannot remove or delete attachments: button and menu item greyed-out

I cannot delete or remove attachments that I receive when using
Entourage as my mail reader. The "Remove" button remains greyed-out
and un-selectable when I highlight the attachment in the attachment
list box of the message pane. Similarly, right clicking directly on
the attachment opens up a small floating menu box where the "Remove
attachment" item is greyed-out.

I am using Entourage 11.3.6 connected to an Exchange server and OS X
10.4.10.

Any help or ideas about how I can get Entourage to delete or remove
email attachments would be greatly appreciated!

Danny

Are you sure the messages in questions have been fully downloaded from
the server?

Thanks for your reply. I believe they must be as I can certainly open
up any of these attachments without any problems.

Thanks,

I just tried it, and I see the same behavior here. This may be a bug,
or some kind of weird limitation of Exchange clients.

Some good news for you, though:

My "Remove Attachments" script does appear to be able to remove
attachments from selected messages with an Exchange account. So you can
use it instead:

(Diane, if you read this, feel free to put this on the MVP site.)

I believe this is an exchange 'function'.

I'll get it uploaded today. I know this request has been asked many times in
an effort to keep within size limits.

Well, partly...
My "Remove Attachments" script does appear to be able to remove
attachments from selected messages with an Exchange account. So you can
use it instead:

This script (and others like it) will only remove the attachment from the
locally cached copy of the message, it will not remove the attachment from
the version stored on the server. You can check this by deleting the message
cache, or logging into your exchange account through a web browser and OWA.
This is a royal pain, since the reason most people want to remove attachment
is to conserve storage space _on_the-server_!

The only way to remove the attachment on the server is to move the message
to a local folder (one under the 'on my computer' hierarchy), remove the
attachment then copy the message back to the exchange server.

Ah - as I suspected.

Ah yep that does make sense. Thanks for investigating that. : )

That's tedious indeed, but that's a good work-around solution anyway. Thanks!
