Cannot retrieve junk pop email

R

Richard Tomkins

Once in a while I get a junk email in my ISP pop account that blocks the
complete download of email from my ISP.

The only way to fix this is to access the ISP email with an alternative
process, such as a web mail client, and delete
the first email in the account. I have also noticed this happening with
Outlook and Outlook express on another PC
That I use on occasion.

Would anyone have any similar experiences such as this?

Yes. One new trick starting with Entourage 2004 is that you can start it up
from default settings - i.e. with Send & Receive All schedule OFF (Manual
only) - by holding down the Shift key at startup - like "Extensions Off"
when starting up your Mac. This allows Entourage to launch without crashing
in situations like this. You could then turn off Preview Pane and check the
server looking for the suspect message.

If you have POP accounts, you'd do it by using your Webmail account or use
Allow Online Access
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/index.html#online_access> in the
Options window of the account settings. Next, select the server icon now
appearing in the Folders List and turn off Preview Pane.

If IMAP, Exchange or Hotmail just check your Inbox and folders affected with
Preview Pane turned off.

Entourage 2008 seems to handle this better. I haven't experienced this in
quite some time.

Thank you for suggestion.

No Luck.

Entourage is not crashing.

This is the error, Could not retrieve the message headers.

Is the account set for "Allow online access" in the Options tab of Account
settings? If so, then select the online version of the account, select the
offending message, and try deleting it there.

Yeah did that, set the "Allow Online Access" option in Entourage and when I
click on it, nothing. It does not access the server, it generates the same
error.

Weird, Huh?

Still dealing with this problem.
It is possibly a bad header inserted into the message address that Entourage
cannot deal with and the Linux server lets it through.
Someone must have discovered a way to fake out Linux machines and thus
Windows client systems.
As I said before, my Outlook and Entourage both have this problem and they
most likely use common code.
