Cannot send an attachment

I've been trying to send emails with attachments (pdf and jpeg mostly) but I keep getting an error message saying:

Blocked - see <http://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml?86.97.66.162>

I have contacted our Administrator but he is stumped as he is not very well versed in Mac. (Everyone except me uses PC).

We have web access to our mails and I have been able to send attachments using that so I don't know if this is an Entourage problem.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated on how I can resolve this.

Thanks for your time!

Hi Sofia!

I'm not an expert in this so I'm providing my best understanding of the
problem.

First, SpamCop is a service that mail server administrators can
subscribe to. They receive a list of "known" domains and IP addresses
that have been reported to SpamCop as sending spam messages. (That's not
to say rightly or wrongly reported.)

My understanding of the service is that it blocks messages based on
where *messages are coming from* not on *what's contained within
individual messages*. That's typically the role of antivirus and
antispoofing software.

The fact that you're receiving a message from SpamCop is indicative of
your company's address being on their block list, not because you're
using Entourage on a Mac.

See what happens when you send identical test messages from Entourage on
your Mac and from an E-mail client on Windows to a known address where
you expect you'll receive this SpamCop report. (You must do this from
the same network to get reliable information.) Does just Entourage get
the report or do both E-mail clients get the report?

As soon as you receive one of these reports then quickly check SpamCop's
block list to see if your IP address if on it
<http://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml>. According to your post your IP
address is 86.97.66.162.

Hope this helps!

Hi William

Your suggestions were really helpful, thank you! We have pinpointed the problem and it was NOT with Entourage.

Our ISP were having major issues and the solution turned out to be as simple as pinging the server to generate a new unblocked IP address.

Again, thanks for your help!
