cannot send email

Whenever I compose an email and send it, an error message pops up a
minute later and says:

"An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down,
overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic."

It does this every time, and I can't figure out how to send emails
through Entourage. Please help.

Check the SMTP server you specified in Tools > Accounts. You may have
misspelled the server name.

JR,
I don't think I spelled the SMTP server wrong because it just says
smtp.aim.com. I can receive messages with no problem. Its sending
them that I cannot do.

Send & Receive problems can be complex to solve, but generally these
solutions apply:

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

Open Keychain Access application in Applications/Utilities folder and delete
the entry for that account. Run Keychain First Aid. It's in the Keychain
menu under Keychain Access.

Go to Entourage, select 'accounts' from the Tools menu, choose the account
that was giving you trouble and delete that account. You should now be able
to enter the correct information. Type carefully. If you paste don't include
spaces.

According to this help page, you need to set the SMTP port to 587:

The default SMTP port is port 25. To tell Entourage to use a different
port for SMTP:

1. From the Entourage menu bar, select Tools > Accounts.
2. Double-click the account you want to edit.
3. Click the "Click here for advanced sending options" button under the
"SMTP Server" text box.
4. In the "Override default SMTP port" text box, enter 587.
