Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

Error 4.3.0 collect: cannot write...
Everything has been working fine for months, then suddenly today I can't send emails...it says:

4.3.0 collect: Cannot write ./dfm8O02Nke024850 (bfcommit, uid=0, gid=51): Read-only file system

I've tried rebooting and that didn't work.

Using Repair Permissions after installing MS Office or any application that
uses an installer is often advised. To use Repair Permissions:
1. Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utility folder.
2. Click on the First Aid tab and select Repair Permissions
3. Click on the icon for your boot volume.
4. Click the repair permissions button.

Don't run from CD. Updates contain a newer versions of the application's
permissions.

Thanks, Diane...I just did that and it didn't fix the problem. Any other ideas?

Check the permissions using Get Info on your Microsoft User Data folder. A
good way to test things like this is to create a new User in System
Preferences and check permissions on the folders and use it as an example. I
would also test Entourage in the new User account. Enter account info (set
to leave on server for testing.)

My Microsoft User Data folder and all enclosing folders and files:

Owner: diane (shows locked if you need to change click on the lock, change
then lock)
Access: Read & Write
Group: diane
Access: Read only
Other: Read only

Basics
1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

You can try re-entering info.
You can delete account and create a new one.
Using copy/paste can result in an extra space being added. Type carefully.
Check your Keychain for corruption.

Let me know what you find.

Double-check your account settings in Tools > Accounts to ensure that they
are up-to-date. It sounds like an issue on the server-side; they may be
doing an upgrade, in which case there's not much you can do other than wait
for the problem to be resolved.
