"Cannot start microsoft office outlook"

After setting up Outlook Express, I recived the following message when
trying to start Outlook 2003:

"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong
version. This could have been caused by installing other messaging software.
Please reinstall Outlook."

Ok, no problem I thought-- I went to Add/Remove Programs and tried a repair.
Problem still existed. So I tried again, only doing a reinstall as the
message requested. Problem STILL exists.

The info I found on this issue just says reinstall Office 2003 and all will
be fine. However, I did and it isn't. So... any suggestions?

Thanks,

Randall Arnold

Thanks, but I had already tried that without success.

What wound up working was this:

-renaming MAPI32.DLL files to MAPI32.DLX (there were 2 instances, one in
System32 and one in Outlook folder).
-running fixmapi.exe

After I did that, the Office 2003 setup began again, just to update Outlook.
All is working now!
