Cannot sync with iCal

B

Bruce Truax

I just purchased a Motorola RAZR phone and I would like to sync both my
contacts and my Calendar items. I am able to get the contacts to sync with
Address book and then with the phone (although to get it started is like
starting an old English sports car, you have try try multiple times until it
runs smooth and then there are no problems). But no matter what I do I
cannot get iCal to sync. Entourage creates the Entourage calendar in iCal
but no information shows up in iCal (Version 2.0.5).

I have tried the instructions on the MS website and deleted the contents of
the SyncServices folder and the renabled syncing but still no luck.

I am running 10.4.11 and Entourage 11.3.6. Any ideas on how to get this to
work?

Did you try to disable, then re-enable synching in the Entourage
preferences??

You could try to check in the COnsole to see if there is something
weird. Leopard has a nice tool to check synchronization issues, but it's
not available for Tiger anymore :-(

I am getting a lot of the following types of messages which look suspicious:

2007-12-01 06:27:38.100 SyndicationAgent[6570] WARNING:

Does this mean anything?

It could mean that the corresponding events are corrupted and preventing
the sync....

I suspect you are right. What can I do to fix the problem? Do I need to
delete all events from my Calendar and start from scratch? That would be
very inconvenient.

Indeed,
What I had in mind was rather to delete the few entries that are
corrupted (tracking them down with the information in the Log) to see if
it fixes the problem,

Corentin,

While I like your suggestion there is nothing in the log file which points
to a specific event

Here is another hint. Perhaps this one will be more enlightening. Here are
some errors which popped up today. When I opened iCal Microsoft Sync
Services became active and these messages popped up the log. Can you decode
them for me? Do they point to a specific event which I can delete?

Well did you have any specific event on the two dates cited in your
previous post:

well I'm unsure what 105575.Event refers to. It could be the event
ID....but I'm not 100% sure.

Clearely, if it is the case, this event has serious problems syncing.

Solved!!!

Since it was not possible to determine which event 105575.event referred to
I started deleting all past events. Once I got the right one everything
appeared in iCal.

Well I'm glad you fixed it :)
(though I guess an AppleScript could have told you which event was
105575),

How could I have done this with an applescript. I would like to have the

Hi Bruce,

information for future reference.

Bruce

you can try something like that:

tell application "Microsoft Entourage"
set thestart to start time of event id 105575 as string
display dialog thestart
end tell

This will give you the start time of the event. Looking into the
Entourage AppleScript dictionary, you can see all other parameters you
could display and you could modify this very simple script to have it
display anything you want about the event.
