Cannot type in area next to where WordArt was incerted.

After incerting a verticle WordArt in my document I cannot type anywhere in
the blank space along side of the WordArt that I incerted. I remember one
time before, along time ago, I had to click a command so that I could type
anywhere on the document that I wanted to.

Right-click on the WordArt object, and left-click on Format Object |
Layout | Square | OK.
