Can't back-up my Entourage database

When I try to make a back-up copy (or duplicate) of my Main Identies
folder it stops the copy just before it finishes and says "The Finder
cannot complete the operation because some data in "Database" could not
be read or written. (Error code -36)."

Does anyone know of a work around? The last time I backed up this
database (2 mos ago) I had no problem.

I'm using Office 2004.

This had me stumped too and no where is it documented but there does appear
to be a bug.
It starts off ok and then this error starts appearing.

You don't appear to be able to copy the folder of your current identity.
You could in OS 9 but not in X

Heres a work-around:

Switch identities (command alt q) and rename your your identity to
something else ie 'Sharon' . Then create a new identity 'Main' and choose
that to start up into.
You'll get the usual set up account dialog boxs but just close them you
don't need to set up a new account. Just quit Entourage.

Now try copying the folder 'Sharon' in your Office 2004 Identities Folder
to wherever you want to back up the copy.

Once the backups done and your happy to use Entourage again just launch
and switch back to your 'Sharon' Indentity.

Whenever you want to do a back up, switch to the 'Main' identity before
copying the Sharon folder.

Entourage or OS X seems to place a lock on the database while its your
chosen identity.

I recommend using Chronosync to do your back ups.
It can set up to run an apple script before and after running any backups
and you could make one that switchs off Microsoft's database daemon and
switchs over your Entourage Identity before and then switching back
after.
