can't change from landscape to portrait.

When trying to change from lanscape to portrait in page setup I get a
message that increasing the right margin will result in a narrowing and
result in
uneven columns.

Go to Format | Columns. Make sure the "Apply to" setting is "Whole
document." Then click the icon for One. Click OK.

Thanks, Suzanne, I was having the same problem and that did indeed fix it -
FOR THAT document, however each time I reopen Word, it's the same issue. How
can I change the default so that it opens in Portrait all the time?
