Can't connect to Exchange

Brennon Bortz

I am trying to setup entourage with my Exchange server. I am the Exchange
server administrator. I am not having success getting the account to
synchronize. I am brand new to Mac/Windows networking... Here are the
settings I am trying:

Account Name: RTI
Account ID: brennonbortz
Password: (password)
Domain: rti.local (have also tried "rti")
Exchange server: http://www.rticm.com/exchange (have also tried
mail.rticm.com, 192.168.1.34, as well as the public ip of the machine)
Name: Brennon Bortz
E-mail address: [email protected] (yes, my address is "brennon.bortz"
and my Active Directory user name is "brennonbortz")

The settings on all other tabs remain at defaults.

I am getting the following error:

The server for account "RTI" returned the error "Logon failure: unknown user
name or bad password." Your username/password or security settings may be
incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your password?

Can anyone help? Does this sound like a client-side or server-side problem?
Help, please!

Which do you use when you connect through webmail in your browser ??

Try [domain]\[username] in the Account ID field.

Also, You might be able to setup a POP account using the exchange web
URL for incoming and outgoing (if your exchange server is setup to do
POP). Your Account ID would still probably be [domain]\[username].

Hope that helps!

Brennon,

We had a similar issue. Ours was a client-side issue, but I'm not sure
if our servers are set up differently than yours. Worth a try, though.

Take a look at the "Advanced" tab in your account settings. Put a
check mark in "DAV service requires secure connection (SSL)".

That did the trick for us. Good luck!

You might also try:
[domain]\[username]\[mailbox name]

IE, our our SBS 2003 domain, my username is my first name while my mailbox
is first.last

Yes, I could setup a POP account, but I wouldn't get all the features of the
accessing it directly through Exchange...

That did it! This is a very standard SBS installation. New users to
Entourage who are attempting to connect to an SBS 2003-driven Exchange
server might benefit from a little hint somewhere leading them to check this
box... Thank you all for your help!!

Okay, so now I am able to RECEIVE mail from my Exchange server, but not
send...

Every send attempt, I get the following error:
Error:
HTTP error. The server is temporarily unable to fulfill the request.

Explanation:
Mail could not be sent.

Error -18497

Any ideas?

BTW, in SP2, if you enter https in the server field, Entourage will now
automatically check the "DAV service requires secure connection (SSL)"
checkbox and adjust the port to the default SSL port accordingly.
