Can't delete IMAP message on Entourage

L

Luis Hestres

Hello,

For some reason I have some duplicates of an IMAP message that don't show
up on my webmail. When I try to delete the duplicates in Entourage, they
won't delete. I've tried hitting the delete key, moving it to the trash folder
with the mouse, through the menu, refreshing the message list, and nothing
works. The first time I had the problem I deleted the IMAP account and
recreated it, but I can't keep doing that everytime this happens. Thanks,

Luis

Try repairing the message list. You can either Control-click the IMAP
folder and select "Repair Message List" from the contextual menu, or press
Command-Option-L when you have a message in the folder selected.

If that fails, you can try emptying the cache. Control-click the IMAP
server, and select "Empty Cache" from the contextual menu.

I've had exactly the same problem with Entourage 2004 (duplicate
messages, unable to delete messages)...that I DID NOT have with the
previous version of Entourage!

Repairing the message list works occasionally but this morning it did
not so I tried the "empty cache" solution...that seemed to
work...after waiting 5-10 minutes for the entire Inbox to be deleted
then downloaded from the server.

What did they break with Entourage 2004? This is very frustrating and
time consuming to be messing with this!!!!

I think that I have been suffering the same problem on an imap4 server
running Microsoft Exchange 2003. I have duplicate messages in the inbox and
even if I delete (one) of them the other one remains. The message is
deleted from the server, but the problem is that the local inbox and the
server doesn't stay synchronized. Repairing the message list or emptying
the cache works, but having to do this continually isnt a practical
solution. Is there something that can be done?

Hi Neal,

I have couple of questions to try and narrow down what is going on. How
many accounts are being used in this identity and what types are they? How
many messages are in the IMAP folders that are becoming corrupt?

Also, could you give me breakdown of your IMAP rules, # you have, what they
do, etc?

Sorry you are having trouble, and thanks for the feedback.

Eventually I got this worked out. The only way was to remove the IMAP
account from the configuration. Then compact the database to remove the
email files. Then restore the IMAP account and redownload all the email.

Actually you could probably have done the same by control-clicking on the
IMAP server icon and choosing Empty Cache. Again, when you visited it again,
the headers would all download again (as after deleting the account).
Somewhere within them may still be lurking a message on the server which, if
downloaded again, might create trouble once more.

Please post if this happens again.

I had tried the "empty cache" method and while it worked initially to clean
up the inbox problems and synchronize with the server I soon had problems
thereafter as a few messages later, I would wind up with messages remaining
on the local machine that had been deleted from the server. The only method
that worked was the one above.
