Can't display individual addresses in a distribution list

Email Client: Exchange

In 2004, there was a check-box in the address field that allowed you to display the individual members of an Exchange distribution list, but I can't find this anywhere in 2008. The only thing I get is the list e-mail alias.

An Exchange distribution list? You can view the members when you are
browsing the Global Address List double-clicking on it. You cannot see it
when addressing a message.

So, it's not possible to edit out individual recipients as is possible in 2004 and Outlook? That's a suprising downgrade in functionality.
