Can't do simple math in Word 2003

I'm baffled that Word 2003 can't perform simple addition and multiplication
of cells and not have to be updated after the document is protected for forms
and data is entered.

Am I doing something wrong - besides not using Excel for this? Excel isn't
the choice because of it's limited Word-smithing abilities to use to create
our proposals.

Hi Chris-

How about embedding an Excel workbook in the Word doc? It may provide what
you need. Take a look at Insert>Object.

If you want the calculated field to update automatically, you must check the
box for "Calculate on exit" in the Form Field Options of each field that
contributes to the result, as well as in the calculated field.
