Can't get background music to presentation to play in PP 2003.

I am rebuilding a presentation to play a cut from a CD as background to about
20 slides. When I start the slide show the cut plays for the time the firs
slide is showing and stops when the slide is replaced by he next. All the
settings seem to be correct according to the books,but no dice. Can any one
steer me in the right direction?
