can't get powerpoint to play music why

PowerPoint, the type of music your trying to use, and the steps your taking to

We can't stare over your shoulder to see what you're doing there -- and your
description is hardly complete -- so it's difficult to offer much in the way
of assistance.

You mention CDs -- since some work and some don't, I'd suspect it's a
digital rights issue. If you're ripping via Windows Media Player and you
don't have permissions for the music, you won't be able to insert it into
PPT.

If the CD's are commercial and you "ripped" them with Windows Media Player
the Digital Rights Management will prevent them from playing any where but
on the development machine. As it's possible to distribute a presentation,
(and the audio file) PowerPoint is not allowed to use them.
