Can't import emails from Office X

I just purchased Office 2008, followed all of the directions. Tried to import emails from Office X into 2008 and ran into a major problem. I don't have a clue what to do. Can anyone help me in plain english. This is my first mac.

I apologize as I try to import contacts from Office X to Office 2008 this is the message I receive when I try to import emails form Office X:

Import from Entourage X could not be completed because an error (-40) ocurred

Error -40 is a positioning error (tried to position before start of file).
This might indicate file system corruption. Try running Apple's Disk
Utility: First Aid and repairing the disk till it shows clean.
