Can't open a .pps file on the web

Can someone please advise me.

I have a .pps file created in Powerpoint-XP on a Windows 2K PC. My version of IE is 5.5.

When I try to open this file on our intranet site all I can do is save it and nothing else. But when I try on a PC that has IE 6 I can select to view it OK
Information I have indicates that these PPS file will work OK on all IE version 5.5 and above. Any ideas why it is working differently across the versions.
