Can't open Entourage on my Mac

I have Office Mac 2004 and OS X 10.4.8. I am using the Mail program for
my personal email. I would like to set Entourage up and sync it with my
office email which is also Entourage. However, I am not even able to
open Entourage to set it up. When I attempt to open the program, I get
a window that says "This identity cannot be opened with this version of
Entourage." Any suggestions?

usually means, for example, that Entourage is at 11.0, but the
saved
database was saved in Entourage 11.2. Since there was a database
format
change in there, Entourage 11.0 cannot open a database saved in Entourage
11.2.

And the solution is to download the latest updates form mactopia.

We are in the same boat. Office Mac 2004 software and OSX 10.4.8.
Have been using Mail and like it quite well, but want to check out
Entourage. We get the same error message. Aroon, have you resolved
the problem? Downloading updates is not an option with slow dial-up
service available here. I am hoping there is another more home-grown
solution. How can we have data in another version when this is all
there is? Is this installation of Office getting mixed up with the
trial version that was on when we bought the computer? It was deleted
as instructed before installing Office.

Hi -Am interested to know if someone found a solution. I cannot seem to be
able to install the updates from Mactopia either!

I am kind of a beginner and quite lost! Any help appreciated.

"This identity cannot be opened with this version of
Entourage." means you need to upgrade Entourage to open the database
because it was created in a newer version of Entourage than you have
currently installed. This is common when you re-install Office and do not
apply all updates.

Deleting the Test Drive of Office has given many users fits. If you search
on the newsgroup <microsoft.public.mac.office.> you can read all about the
trials and tribulations of removing the Test Drive. I have tried to cover
how to remove the test drive here:

Note in order to use the full version of Office the Test Drive MUST be
removed first. Don't assume you have remove the test drive.

Hi

Many thanks for the response. I actually bravely (or foolishly, depends!)
uninstalled Office 2004 correctly and reinstalled the whole lot. I was then
able to download all avalable updates. nd oh joy, oh miracle, I got not only
Entourage back, but all my email, contacts, calendar events, etc.

I am not entirely sure what I did, but it worked!
