We have an intermittent problem opening a ppt file from a webpage using the
"open" option for the download dialog box instead of "save".
We are using Office 2000 on XP Pro machines with IE 6. We know that PPT
file was made in PPT2000 too. 95% of all user can go to the webpage and
select open and the presentation displays after the 1.6 mb download with no
problem. However, some users always get "PowerPont can't read C:\documents
and setting\[user]\local settings\temporary internet
files\content.ie5\P86HP04H\RSR8k6k[1].pps"
I've cleared the temporary Internet files, performed a detect and repair on
office2000, disable antivirus, rebooted. Still the same error. One weird
thing is that the "content.ie5" folder is NOT in the Temporary internet files
folder for the affected users. It's in the "Default user" folder, which is a
hidden file.
Normally I would tell the user to just save the file to their desktop THEN
open it (this works by the way) but two of the affected users are the owner
and the VP. Please help.
