Mac 0SX 10.3.4/Entourage 2004

Before I upgraded to Entourage 2004, mail from companies like Apple used to
read fine. Now, they come in like:

Apple Canada
<http://images.apple.com/chatterbox/us/2004/07/1357j_ca_en/img/top.gif>

And so on for pages! All my settings in Entourage are proper, I think, but
why is this happening.

There's a new "Show attached pictures" pref. Yours is unchecked. If
that's not what you want, check it. m.

Actually that is not the case. I am familiar with the attached pictures
item. In fact when messages like that appear, it gives me to option to "Show
Pictures" In the Apple newsletter that option does not appear. I think it's
not pictures that is the problem, it's the complex HTML. I have complex HTML
checked too!

I just opened this identical email from Apple in "Mail" app from Apple, and
it shows it the way it was intended. Hmmmm.....

This is getting weirder, but here is what happens. I forwarded the Apple
newsletter from "Mail" app to me. I received it in Entourage, but this time,
instead of receiving:

I got the email listing a whole bunch of attachments, like a a 100 of them,
things like spacer.gif, 174_line.gif etc. etc etc., then some formatted
text, some with colour, and some pictures, a whole bunch of horizontal lines
and icons all the way down the page, but obviously not totally formatted.

Hmmmm

Are you using the option to partially download messages above a certain
size? Maybe you are not getting the whole message?

In the Apple newsletter that option does not appear. I think it's

Try this: Drag Macintosh HD/Users/<Problematic
User>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfig.plist and
com.microsoft.explorer.plist to the Desktop. Re-launch Entourage, open a
complex HTML message, and see if you have the same problem.

If you do, the pref files were not part of the problem and can be moved back
where they came from.

Actually I now think that it's something to do with the undocumented
"Automatically download pictures from my address book contacts"
checkbox. m.

Having same problem. My "automatically download pictures..." box WAS
briefly checked and is now NOT, but I still receive a number of emails
where the images don't load properly. I've checked the email accounts
and DO NOT have any of the boxes checked to limit download size...
What gives? Do we need to trash the prefs and rebuild?

And, I can't find any Entourage Pref box marked "Show attached
pictures". Is there one, or was that posting in error?

No, it wasn't in error; it's in the View pane. - This issue arises only
with certain servers and only when they do certain things. Entourage is
doing something non-standard here.

The joke of this whole thing is that it doesn't work properly in either
direction. There are some pictures I cannot see at all, and there are
other pictures where, no matter what I check, I cannot prevent them from
being shown. So on the one hand I'm losing information and on the other
hand I'm not getting any "security". m.

I think I read that pictures are automatically downloaded only if the
sender is in your address book.
