can't read some of my emails - text is garbage

Hi,

I have a new iMac and Office X 2004. Some, but not all, of my emails
are unreadable. I have not removed any of my system fonts. If I open
the unreadable message and click on reply or forward, it suddenly
becomes readable. If i select the garbage text copy, and then paste
it, it becomes readable. If I open the email, choose edit message,
then re-wrap the paragraphs under the Edit menu, it becomes readable.
Sometimes any part of the message that is in italics is legible, but
the non-italic text is not.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Not all the messages are in
HTML format, from what I can tell. But I can't say for sure. Most
HTML messages come through fine.

I'm a very experienced Mac user, and this has just totally baffled me.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The only messages for which this is happening are complex HTML messages sent
by certain email clients (Outlook, I think) with specific HTML code that is
interpreted differently by Entourage's complex HTML renderer. If you had
Preferences/Security/View complex HTML in messages OFF, you wouldn't be
seeing the problem (but you also wouldn't be able to download web page
pictures, see tables, etc.)

I may be misremembering, but I thought this was fixed by SP 1 Update. Launch
Microsoft AutoUpdate in your /Applications folder, and run it a few times to
install all Office 2004 updates, to bring it up to 11.1.1.

PLEASE always state which version of Microsoft Office you are using -

Paul Berkowitz:
Entourage's complex HTML renderer...

Is there a compatibility issue (Outlook?) so that Entourage may not use
Apple's WebKit/Core in its next rev for HTML/PDF/rich media rendering?

I am only seeing this issue when sent email's by my daughter from a laptop
Dell. I see &gt in front of every line, or some such nonsense, but only when
she forwards an email.

Ah..., I found out the problem. My daughter is forwarding the email from her
webmail acct, not from Outlook. That must be the problem.
