Can't remove an attachment from an e-mail after upgrading to Entourage 2004 v.11.2.1

Hello,

I used to be able to remove just the attachments from e-mail messages
created by me in Entourage 2004. However, since upgrading to OS X 10.4
(am now at 10.4.5), and updating to Entourage 2004 v.11.2.1, I can no
longer do this. The option to "Remove" is greyed out.

I need to be able to remove big attachments from my sent e-mails but
keep my those messages in my "Sent" box for at least several weeks. Am
using Entourage in a corporate environment with an Exchange Server. We
have very limited e-mail storage space so those attachments must be
deleted ASAP.

Any thoughts? One used to be able to "Remove" attachments in earlier
versions of 2004. This is enough to prevent me from moving my designers
to 10.4!

Thanks

If you were using an Exchange account (or IMAP account) back then, then you
were fooling yourself (or being fooled). Entourage 11.2 is more honest,
that's all.

With server (Exchange or IMAP) accounts, "removing" an attachment just
removed it from the copy in the cache on you own computer. It never actually
removed it from the original message on the server. (This is understandable,
since the messages on the server are encoded: the attachment can't actually
be extracted and removed.) Since people (including you) naturally believed
that the removal was actually working on the server, they could easily get
in trouble with server mailbox limits.

11.2.1 is being honest. You can't remove the attachments directly. But you
can do it by a trick: move the message to a local folder "On My Computer"
(making sure the original is actually moved, i.e. deleted). Remove the
attachment in the local folder, then move the message back to the Exchange
folder. Voila!
