If you can send you should be able to reply. Do you have more than one
account? Are you replying using the same account that you can send new
messages?

If you install tcpflow, you can monitor the traffic in the Terminal and see
what is being said between Entourage and your ISP. This should give you the
answer to what needs to be fixed.

Download tcpflow here:
<http://www2.entropy.ch/download/tcpflow-0.20.dmg.gz>

When you install, you will not see an application, but it will allow you to
use the Terminal to view network traffic.

It's best to test this with just the application that is giving you problems
like Entourage. Quit your browser or any other application that could be
using the network.

Select "Work Offline" in Entourage

After install, open the Terminal and copy/paste in this command

sudo /usr/local/bin/tcpflow -i en0 -c

These are for Ethernet. Other instructions here:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/tcpflow.html>
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/sniff.html>

Deselect "Work Offline" and click on "send and receive" You'll see Entourage
talking to your ISP.

I cannot send any email with Entourage under any circumstances at all.
That makes the product completely useless to me.

My ISP (Cox) requires me to use their SMTP server. I set it up
correctly, but Entourage won't send out any mail, returning an error
message that leads me to KB article 842882. Microsoft acknowledges the
problem, has known about it since July 2004, and has not fixed it! They
don't support an authenication method that is still in widespread use.

Is there any way to fix this massive defect in Entourage, or have I
been robbed? Or would Microsoft prefer that I use Thunderbird?
