can't send email

Help! I can't send email. I am using Entourage 2004 for Mac, version
11.3.6. I have no problem receiving email, but when I try to send, it
stays in the Outbox and I get an Error 3259 message whenever I try to
send. For the last several days, my email messages would get delayed,
but would eventually send out. Now they've stopped going out
altogether. These are simple emails, with no attachments. Any ideas
about the problem would be MOST appreciated. Thanks!

What type of account, and what service provider are you using?

Is it possible they have changed their settings recently?

I am using Comcast high-speed internet. They only support Outlook
Express, not Entourage, so they are not willing to help (argh!)

It should be fairly easy to figure out what you need from the
instructions for OE.

The settings that really matter to you are :
- address of the SMTP server
- port (if it's a non standard one)
- authentication (required or not and what format for the login)
- SSL active or not.

(that's all I can think of)

Directions for Outlook Express are the same for Entourage. I use Comcast
with Entourage. You need to provide more info like what type of account so
we can help.

Sometimes a message won't send. When that happens no further messages will
be able to go out. Usually you can just copy the contents into a new message
and it send with no problem. Deleting the bad message clears up the backlog.
Sometimes just quitting Entourage and reopening will clear up a problem.
Restarting your computer will also clear some problems like this.

The info we have on Error -3259 is below. Is it possible this is a positive
error and not a negative one? Info we do have on errors is often not
inclusive so this fix is not the only solution.

Error -3259

No description...exchange error

User, Jeremy Reichman reports that -3259 seems to be solved by actually
making Global Catalog servers available for LDAP lookups.

Basics on Send and Receive:

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

You can try re-entering info.
You can delete account and create a new one.
Using copy/paste can result in an extra space being added. Type carefully.
Check your Keychain for corruption.

I tried all of your suggestions, but nothing worked. Thanks anyway. :-

Hi, thanks for the suggestions, but still no resolution. I tried
deleting my Entourage account and creating a new one, and checked my
keychains. Still a mystery (sigh!)
