Can't sync; imaginary user

Hi ,

I've been trying to Sync Entourage X with my Palm and keep getting this
message when I go to adjust the settings:

'HotSync Failure: The Entourage identity "Main Identity" could not be
opened because another identity is open in another Office application.

Failed Entourage Conduit'

I only have "Main Identity" and I don't have any Office applications
open at all. This is so frustrating, I would love to upgrade to Office
2004 but if I can't get syncing to work it's kind of pointless. I know
I've heard about this before, but have no idea how to remedy it.

I'm using a G4 (as well as an iBook) and a Tungsten E handheld.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Make sure you are using latest updates of Office X at least 10.1.4
Rebuilt the database

You can test drive Office 2004, with SP1 and follow these exact steps

1. Uninstall the Older version of Palm
2. Download and install the Palm Desktop Software version 4.2.1 from
www.palm.com <http://www.palm.com>
3. Install the Handheld Sync Installer from HD--> Applications--> Microsoft
Office 2004 --> Additional Tools
4. Deleted the com.palm.desktop.plist from User Home--> Library -->
Prefrences
5. Deleted the com.palm.hotsync.plist from User Home--> Library -->
Prefrences
6. Uninstall any other versions of Microsoft Office ( if any)
7. Restarted the system.
8. Open Palm Desktop from HD--> Applications --> Palm
9. From HotSync Menu Click Conduit Settings.
10. Select Entourage Conduit
11. Select the check box " Enable synchronization with these new handhelds"
12. Now Sync the Palm.

I"m using the 10.1.6 update, and I've tried rebuilding the database and
deleting the preferences. I downloaded the 2004 test drive and it
doesn't include the "Additional Tools" folder, that only comes with
the purchased version. And I don't want to buy it unless I know it will
work.
