Can't sync

Nan Barber

I just installed the newest version of Palm Desktop (4.2.1). I'm using Mac
OS X 10.3.4 and Entourage version 11.0.0. Because Entourage wasn't synching
my phone numbers correctly (it was changing Home numbers to Work and wasn't
picking up Mobile numbers at all), I decided to stop using it and get my
information correct in Palm Desktop and on my Palm IIIc and then start over
with Entourage.

So I reinstalled Palm Desktop, trashed my old Palm folder from the Documents
folder and tried to have the handheld overwrite Palm Desktop. But now I
can't sync at all because I get a Conduit Conflict error message! I changed
all the Entourage conduits to Do Nothing, as well as the individual conduits
for Address Book, Tasks, etc., trying to leave on only the ones that are
Palm Desktop and not Entourage. I'm still getting the conflict error message
for To Do list and Date Book.

How can I set the conduits so they work? Better still, how can I uninstall
the Entourage conduit for now, just so I can start over?

Go to /Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits/, and drag the
"Microsoft Entourage Conduit" to the /Library/Application Support/Palm
HotSync/Disabled Conduits/ folder (you can create it if it is not already
there). Drag it back to the Conduits folder when you're ready to use it
again.

Mickey --

Thanks for your reply.

I went to the /Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits folder
and created the Disabled Conduits folder. There was no "Microsoft Entourage
Conduit" in there, so I dragged the "Entourage Conduit Settings" file from
the Home/Documents/Palm/Users/[my account]/Conduit Settings folder, but that
didn't fix the problem.

In my Home/Documents/Palm/Users/[my account]/Conduit Settings folder, I
have the file described above and a file called Conduit Data, and a folder
called "Entourage Data." I'm doing to try disabling those and see if it
works.

In that case, it sounds like the sync software is not properly installed.

Run the installer located at "/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional
Tools/Handheld Sync Installer/" again.

Thanks, Barry!

Actually, I found the problem I had when following Mickey's instructions. I
was using the Library folder in my Home folder, not the root Library folder
like I was supposed to. When I disabled the conduits in the root Library, it
worked perfectly.

I may still have to reinstall, so thanks for the link.

I'm not sure why the conduits would be at the root and not in my account,
since I have multiple accounts on this Mac. But then, I'm the only one on it
who uses a PDA, so I guess it's not a big issue.
