Categories and Flags for Entourage and Outlook on Exchange server.

Tony

Hi All,
I'm an unlucky man (kidding). My boss has 2 computers; a Mac + OsX10.3
+ Entourage 2004 and a PC +WinXPSP2 + Outlook 2003. Both are connected to
MSExchange server 2000 using Exchange server mode.

Inbox and folders synchronization are working fine, the flag seems
working fine that when I flagged a message on Mac, it appeared on PC also
working on the opposite direction.
But it seems like categories cannot be synchronize. Is it by design or
maybe I've done something wrong. Please advice.

Thanks,
Tony.

It's by design, sort of. When sharing calendars and address books publicly
on a server, the idea is that _your_ categories may be unappreciated - an
intrusion - in someone else's calendar and address book. So categories don't
sync on the server.

You could always copy the category name to one of the custom fields that
does sync. On Outlook, anyway, categories aren't much more useful or visible
than that anyway. When opening an item for the first time on the "other"
system, you could then copy that field to a real category.

Sorry, that's a known limitation of Entourage. In the Entourage Help
article "What's synchronized with the Exchange server", it says:
"Categories: Category information you set in Entourage is not synchronized
with the Exchange server."

Hopefully your request here will encourage the product team to implement the
feature in a future version of Entourage.

THat's for delegates options. Entourage also fails to synch the
categories for your own address books and calendars and as Mickey said,
it's unfortunately a limitation :-\
