category/project being applied oddly in email

For some reason, every email in my "junk mail" folder is being put into
my "conference" category. Similarly, emails in another folder that I
created for a rule (informational emails) are given an automatic
project designation for a project that they're completely unrelated to!

Why is it doing this?

You have a corrupt database. Rebuild the database (hold down Option key at
launch.) Unless your rules became set to the wrong actions somehow - check
them. And check again after a rebuild - rules that move messages to IMAP or
Exchange folders will have to be reset and corrected after a rebuild.

Thanks for the suggestions, Paul - but I rebuilt the database and the
same thing is still happening.

I can't find a way to edit the junk mail rule to change this strange
category action - I don't see how I can edit that rule b/c it came
with the program, as did the folder called junk mail, and its workings
seem to be invisible. (The junk mail rule doesn't show up in the popup
window with the others that *I* created when I click on it under tools
-> rules.)

Any other ideas I could try? This is really annoying.
