I am trying to categorize the senders such as friends and work by
using rules but somehow it does not work. Even after created rules,
the sender's message goes to 'deleted' folder. I tried to restart but
it does not change the situation. If someone has the same problem and
knows how to correct, please advise.

In your Address Book, assign categories friends and work to contacts. Then
use a rule to act on the messages. See example rule:

Thanks for your advise. I followed exactly what posted but it does
not seem to obey the direction. To assign category, should I either
open each address from a tab or should I do it from address book
view?

Just select the contact in the Address Book and assign category. There is a
column for categories that you can click and select, or choose the
Categories icon from the tool bar and select to assign.

That's not a category-related problem, actually. Go to Tools>Mailing List
Manager and see if you have not inadvertently created a rule to move your
mail messages to the trash folder. If there is a rule, and you don't
actually use the Mailing List Manager, delete it, and all should be well
again. The automatic deletion of mail messages has nothing to do with
whether a contact is in the address book or not; however, if the sender's
address is in your address book, a message from him or her will never be
marked as junk.

OK, I will try Tools-Mailing List Mgr. This is a function I've never
paid attention to. I looked and found none was listed. I will create
some rules to see the sender's message will be colored (categorized)
and staying in the designated folder instead of 'deleted item'.
Thanks for your support. Will update later.

Thanks

I am trying to categorize the senders such as friends and work by

You don't need *any* rules to use categories! In your Address Book,
assign a category to each person. Next time you receive a message from
that person, Entourage will apply that category.
Even after created rules,
the sender's message goes to 'deleted' folder. I tried to restart but

You don't need rules for categories, so to stop the message from going
to the deleted items folder you can just disable those rules you
created.

Thank for your all advise. My Entourage works as I expect.
