I want to D/L all the messages headers, and bodies from subscribed
newsgroups at one time.
Current behavior, is to d/l headers only, and to log me of the server after
a few minutes of activity. This is extremely frustrating on a slow
connection.
Is there anyway to do this in entourage, or should I use slrn for my news
Sure. Go to Tools/Rules/News/New -- i.e. click on the News tab, then New
button.
Make a rule for
<All Newsgroups>
If
<All messages>
Action:
<Retrieve from server>
Left like this, all messages will download when you click on a newsgroup.
That will take some time. So you'll probably also want to go to
Tools/Schedules/New or Tools/Schedules/Send & Receive All, and either make a
new schedule or add to Send & Receive All a new action:
<Receive News> <Microsoft News Server> <Click here>
Click the button on the right. You'll see a list of all your subscribed
newsgroups with checkboxes. Check them all, or as many of them as you want
to download on the schedule. Click OK twice and you're done.
Now your news messages will download in their entirety every time the
schedule runs, so when you go to your newsgroups - even if if you're offline
and sitting on the train - all the messages will be waiting for you with no
need to connect and no delays.
You'll have noticed that there are many criteria in both the rule and the
schedule that would allow you to be more selective as to which messages to
download, if you wish, and whether or not to notify you under various
circumstances.
