Change a chart during a show?

Greetings - is it possible to insert a chart (PowerPoint or Excel) in
PowerPoint 2002 that can be edited and updated DURING a slide show without
exiting to edit mode?

I can already insert hyperlinks and object icons that take me to Excel, etc.
But I have to exit the show to see the results of a chart update.

Is this possible? Thank you!
