I wish to change files from .wma to .wav entension to use them in a
Powerpoint presentation. I have tried many different ways, but none have
worked.

Changing the extention does little or nothing. A wmv is a video file, a wma
is an audio file. You can't simply change the name.

WMA to WAV. I would use Sound Forge if I had to convert from WMA to WAV, but
I'm not sure why I would do that. The file size will multiply by a factor of
10. Terry, what is the problem you are trying to solve?

Not true, not true. To paraphrase from Mr. Clemens, it annoys the pig.

Or to put it differently, changing the extension is a bit like putting a
"Sugar" label on the salt shaker. Boy, is the coffee gonna taste bad.

But aren't there some apps that'll strip the sound out of a movie file?

Well, as a matter of fact...<g>

Yes, there are several and a google search turns up more than I can count.
