Change a scanned document (TIFF) to a workable Word document?

Hi
I've been asked to scan 27 pages that automatically are then converted to
TIFF format. The document then needs to be turned into a useable word
document. I did complete this okay- but slowly - having to select /copy page
by page then paste into word. It would not let me select all the pages at
once for some reason.
Is there a quicker process? Also the copied formatting was everywhere- so
the person I was copying for had to sit and convert the formatting page by
page.
