When I print an email the left margin is too narrow. Can anybody tell me how
to change the margins when I print emails?

Thanks,

When I print an email the left margin is too narrow. Can anybody tell me how
to change the margins when I print emails?

I'm in OS 10.4 - it may be a little different in earlier OS's but I'm pretty
sure it's identical in 10.3.

€ Go to File/Page Setup. Click the "Paper Size" popup button and set it to
"Manage Custom Sizes" at the bottom of the list.
€ In the new window that comes up (with dimmed text fields), click the "+"
button at bottom left. In the large box above it you'll see a new entry
"Untitled". Double-click it and change it to "Wide Margins".
€ You'll also see that all the text fields at the right are now active and
have the settings for your current Page Size; e.g. if it's US Letter, the
Width will be 6.5 inches and the Height 11.0 inches. Leave those where they
are. But you will also see the 4 Margin sizes. (Leave the popup at
"User-defined").
€ On my computer, the left and Right margins are each set to 0.25 inches
(although Entourage messages actually print with about .50 inches). Change
those settings to 1.0 inches, or whatever you wish. You can also change top
and bottom margins if you wish. (OMM. Top is at .25 but actually prints in
Entourage at .50, bottom is .56.)
€ Click OK.
€ Back in the main "Page Setup" window, the Paper Size popup is still set at
US Letter (or A4, or whatever your default is). Change it to the new menu
item "Wide Margins" which you'll find near the bottom of the list.
€ Click OK.

Now print. If the margins aren't exactly as you wish, go back to the Page
Setup window, Paper Size/Manage Custom Sizes and change the margin settings
for the Wide Margins setup until you're happy.

Now Entourage will print using that Page Setup, but it will not affect other
applications. However "Wide Margins" will always be available in the Page
Setup menu item for other apps too, and you can set them to that too if you
wish. In Entourage, if Wide Margins is unsuitable for printing some other
windows (contacts, say), you can change Page Setup/Paper Size whenever you
want.

This is a Mac OS feature. Entourage's built-in message printing is set to
use the full width, up to what the printer will do, unlike some other apps
which have their own adjustable margin settings usually pre-set to 1 inch or
so (like Word does). But you can set up your own custom margin sizes, even
for your standard page size, as long as you call it a custom Page Size in
Page Setup.

You can also reach the Page Setup window from within the Print dialog (Page
Setup button is lower left) if you ever find yourself there and want to
switch to or from Wide Margins.

Interesting. I get a HP dialog box because I use a semi-useless HP
Photosmart printer with very limited capability. I do not get the same
dialog box that Paul described.

Well, I have a really great, if old, HP postscript laser printer (LaserJet
6MP). But even when I change the "Format for" popup in the Page Setup dialog
to "Any printer", I still get all the Paper Size options, including Manage
Custom Sizes item at the bottom. (All this is with the topmost "Settings"
popup at "Page Attributes".)

Furthermore, the little "?" button at bottom left opens the system's Mac
Help to a page called "Using the Page Setup dialog" which describes exactly
the same thing, including a specific reference to the Manage Custom Sizes
item. So the dialog comes from the system, not the printer driver.

As I said, I'm in OS 10.4 (10.4.5, to be precise). As you didn't say, you're
in which OS? This may be a new feature on 10.4, although I thought it was
also in 10.3, but I could easily be wrong about that.
