Go to Edit/Categories/Edit Categories. Select the None category, and change
the color in the swatch box at the right to whatever you want. If you choose
"Other..." you'll get a color choose that lets you pick from millions of
colors.
Of course the whole point of "None" - no category - is to be drab, since
there's no category. You could interpret that as an inducement to provide
categories for most of your events. Some day, when you need to search for
something, you'll be glad if you did.
I don't have a 'None' category when I go to Edit/Categories/Edit Categories.
The main reason I want to do this is because I sync with my Palm Tungsten E,
and cannot maintain categories in my calendar. I'd like the calendar, which
is completely made up of 'None' items to be a bit less drab. But, again,
'None' isn't in my list, so I can't change it.
You can assign categories to items in Entourage - even to calendar events.
All other items items will sync their categories to the Palm. Events won't,
but they won't lose them in Entourage either, not even when you sync back.
New events made on the Palm and synced to Entourage will arrive with no
category but you can always give them categories later if you want.
Unfortunately any change on the desktop side will lead to the category on
the Palm to be set to "unfiled" on the next HotSync.
I created an event on the Palm and set its category to "Work".
After HotSync I manually updated the category of the same event on my
desktop and set it to "Work"
After the next HotSync the event on the Palm had lost its category and was
"Unfiled" again.
This is too bad. Otherwise it would have been possible to live with the lack
of category support for Datebook.
I'm using Office 2004 and a Tungsten T3.
Sorry, I don't get it. That's what "lack of category support for Datebook"
means: you can have categories in Entourage, and they'll appear in Palm OS 5
(Tungsten T3 or E) as "Unfiled". (In Palm OS 4 they simply don't have
categories.) As long as it doesn't sync back to Entourage as "Unfiled" or
"None" - as long as it leaves the correct category in place in Entourage -
you've got exactly the same situation as in older Palms. Isn't that what
happens? That's the same as "lack of support". I suppose you were hoping
that you could set the category manually on the Palm and it would also stay
constant there. No, that's what the MS alert is about. But here, all you
lose is event categories, not "real" data. You end up with the same
situation as on older Palms.
